Cindy and Mike Hartman were encouraged to document the contents of their home after they were burglarized – twice. They had difficulty filing a thorough insurance claim because it was not easy to remember or prove ownership of items that were stolen.
Over the years, Cindy and Mike have talked to family, friends, and business associates throughout the Indianapolis Metropolitan Area who also experienced a loss. When listening to the many stories, they continue to find that most have the same unhappy ending – thousands of dollars worth of forgotten items. Many receive a less-than desirable insurance settlement. Each story has one key ingredient missing — a personal property inventory.
The majority admit that their insurance agents suggest an inventory when discussing their policies. However, homeowners and business owners alike find it too time consuming to create the initial inventory, and know they won’t keep it current even if they do complete it. Some begin, but just never finish it, while others find it too daunting a task to even consider starting one.
The Hartmans created their home and business inventory company in Avon, Indiana, in 2004 due to their life experience and also because they enjoy helping others. They choose to be the leaders in the industry, and achieve this by constantly reviewing the process implementing improvements and revisions along the way. Though not required in the asset inventory industry, they have chosen one more step to professionalism by becoming nationally certified.
Remembering the difficulty of learning the home and company inventory business through trial and error, the Hartmans wanted to share their professional process so others can avoid this time-consuming and difficult start-up phase. Thus, they developed a Business Package and Licensing Agreement that helps the new independent business owner begin their own personal property inventory service. Always seeking opportunities to provide education on the various life events that benefit from knowing what you own, the Hartmans have created and present a 2 CEU course for CPAs and accountants.
With the commitment to serve their community, they are board members of the non-profit FM Radio Station, WYRZ, located in Brownsburg, Indiana.
